8  Sources & background

8.1 How this guide uses sources

This is a practical community guide. Original accounts explain how people developed and used the method; individual reports describe their experience. Research helps clarify terminology and limits, but does not establish that every example here is an optimal schedule.

The week tables and complete session time budgets are editorial examples. They apply the described structure and make the arithmetic explicit. They are not quotations from a book, and shorter or larger versions are adaptations. Exact instructions from a named source should be read with that source’s population, training volume, and purpose in mind.

8.2 The singles approach

Links point to the relevant forum page, with post numbers supplied to help locate the passage. The repository also retains the original scrape under data/ and its intermediate summary under intermediary/ as historical material.

8.3 Norwegian training background

Marius Bakken’s original account describes the development of his lactate-controlled training, including individual differences in threshold readings. His 2026 article on double threshold provides further context. These are the author’s accounts of practice, not controlled trials of this guide’s singles week.

His book, The Norwegian Method Applied, covers threshold training and intensity control. An online preview provides sample pages.

The translated and annotated Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen description at Running Writings is another account to read alongside the original discussion. It is a translation with commentary, and should not be treated as Copeland’s identical prescription.

8.4 Tools and community resources

Community questions help identify gaps in the instructions. A success story, fatigue report, or secondhand book quotation does not establish a new universal rule. This guide does not adopt an exact higher-volume quality percentage from an unverified book passage.

8.5 Research background

These references support the optional explanations. They do not prescribe the week tables.

8.6 Other training approaches

The comparison chapter uses the publisher’s description of Daniels’ Running Formula, the Lydiard Foundation, Pfitzinger Coaching’s FAQ, Palladino’s coaching page, and 80/20 Endurance’s intensity explanation. These short comparisons do not replace their full plans.
